The Spiral Press was an American fine press founded by Joseph Blumenthal (1897-1990) in 1926. Between 1926 and its closure in 1971, the press designed and printed books for or by Robert Frost, W. H. Auden, Pablo Neruda, William Carlos Williams, Robinson Jeffers and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The Spiral Press was founded by Joseph Blumenthal (1897-1990) in 1926. From 1930 on, the press printed special editions of the poems of Robert Frost but also engaged in a great deal of commercial and fine press work. Beginning in 1927, Blumenthal's holiday greetings featured a poem by Frost, embellished with illustrations or printers' ornaments. Blumenthal was awarded the American Institute of Graphic Arts Lifetime Achievement Award in 1952 and designed a typeface which he named after his press....
